Our team provided a critical review of plans to conduct site investigation work at a former automotive manufacturing facility located in an environmental justice area in the Delavan-Grider neighborhood the City of Buffalo. The site is currently under development through a New York State Brownfield Cleanup Program initiative and work is planned to begin shortly. The brownfield portion of the property was once part of a large manufacturing complex which currently suffers from diffuse DNAPL in soil, groundwater and sitting on the bedrock surface. There is a concern that some surface water and groundwater at the site could reach a large underground drain that leads to valuable local waterways. Our team submitted suggested work plan improvements to state regulators on behalf of a citizens advisory group. Work at site investigation work is scheduled to begin soon.
